Hilton Landmarks was retained by the City of Fort Saskatchewan to develop plans to maximize the lifespan of the existing cemetery as well as expansion into adjacent parcels of land.

The study discovered that the City had acquired enough land for over 200 years of cemetery development. The business plan recommended that some of the land be sold to recover development costs. Four sites in the cemetery had a variety of constraints including a utility easement, a river running through two of the expansion areas, and steep slopes. These constraints reduced the amount of land that could be used for development.

Hilton Landmarks overcame this through strategic layout of the vehicular roads and capitalizing on the slopes to create a stairway to double as a premium cremation garden.

The proposed expansion areas offer interment options for the RCMP and veterans, as well as low impact cremation and green burial.
