GSP Group with Robertson Simmons Architects and MTE Consultants were retained to lead a placemaking concept design process for the existing Ainslie Street Transit Terminal in Cambridge. Situated in historic Downtown Galt, the terminal was earmarked for redesign and reinvestment as part of the Region of Waterloo's broader rapid transit initiative which sought to make improvements to the pedestrian and transit environment and update the terminal in advance of the Adapted Bus Rapid Transit service.

As part of the background research, GSP Group assessed the existing facilities, surveyed staff and transit users, and facilitated stakeholder and public workshops for input into improvements. Using this input, GSP Group prepared concept plans and recommendations. Notable improvements included beautification and transit integration along the streetscape, improvements to the terminal building for both transit users and staff areas, stormwater infiltration planters with seat walls, trees and four-season interest understory plantings, improved paving and transit shelters, pedestrian-scale lighting treatments, and public art.
