Sifton Properties retained GSP Group to prepare a master plan and design framework for their RiverBend Village neighbourhood in northwest London. The framework establishes a design vision for this undeveloped 30 hectare site as a mixed-use, largely mid-rise neighbourhood with a vibrant retail-oriented main street and town square that will be the focal point for the surrounding communities. An extensive and comprehensive set of design guidelines have been prepared to guide site design, built form, public spaces, and street design.
The neighbourhood design for RiverBend Village incorporates several retail formats, a significant office and institutional component, and a variety of housing types from low to high rise. A diverse open space system supports these land uses, which includes naturalized and ecological edges along Oxford Street, a contemporarily designed public square on Riverbend Road as a gathering place, and a green corridor linking an existing heritage site to the centre of the neighbourhood. The neighbourhood design promotes an environmental ethic with the intent of being a model of sustainable design for building, landscape, infrastructure and transportation, with particular emphasis on energy efficiency and conservation.
