GSP Takes Second Place in Carbon Cleanse Challenge

Posted on under Cemetery Planning

GSP Group took second place in the 2018 Sustainable Waterloo Region Carbon Cleanse Challenge by reducing waste, energy, water and finding more sustainable ways to commute.

GSP Group joined Sustainable Waterloo Region’s Regional Sustainability Initiative two years ago with the goal of reducing the carbon footprint at our Kitchener and Hamilton offices. This is our second year taking part in the Carbon Cleanse Challenge to reduce water usage, waste, energy and explore commuting alternatives.

We’ve come a long way by taking second place and getting more staff involved. It’s a fun and informative team builder that is helping us break bad habits. (Turning off lights, computers, and monitors; giving our printer a break and putting PDFs to work; car pooling; biking to work, etc.) Most notably, in the past year we committed to no longer buying bottled water. We saved about 120 plastic water bottles by instead offering filtered tap water to our guests.

We hope that the 2nd year of the Carbon Cleanse Challenge helped to bring greater awareness to the ways we consume our resources and highlighted new and easy ways that we can reduce our impact at work and at home.

Thank you to Sustainable Waterloo Region for mentoring us through this process.
