Brenda Khes Receives OPPI Member Service Award

Brenda Khes, a Senior Associate Planner leading GSP Group Inc.’s Hamilton office, received the Member Service Award from the Ontario Professional Planners Institute for her dedication to the OPPI and to the planning profession.

Brenda has over 33 years of land use planning experience in both the public and private sector.

For 15 years, she assisted in providing planning services to the former Township of Glanbrook.  She was also the Manager of the City of Hamilton's Community Planning and Design Section and played an integral role in the preparation of secondary plans, participated in a number of special studies, and was involved in numerous public consultation processes.

Brenda has led large teams on public sector projects in Hamilton including the Barton-Tiffany Urban Design Study, Pan Am Stadium Community Plan and McMaster Innovation Park Secondary Plan, as well initiatives associated with surplus school sites and Infrastructure Ontario. She has assisted private sector clients in the review of the development potential of properties, and led them through the full range of planning approvals.

         

Brenda was a member of the Planning Knowledge Exchange Committee for the 2016 OPPI Symposium, which included hosting a mobile workshop exploring the transformation along Hamilton’s waterfront.

Recently, Brenda has been involved as Vice Chair and currently Leadership Chair of the Western Lake Ontario District (WLOD) Leadership Team contributing to pertinent planning matters in the District, including authoring articles for Ontario Planning Journal and leading the WLOD Farm Crawl.

Since 2002, Brenda has been a member and currently Chair of the Advisory Committee for the Urban Planning Technician program at Mohawk which reviews the Planning Program to ensure it is keeping current with the industry and make suggestions for improvement. Brenda has been active in accepting and mentoring students for internships for many years.

Brenda is a member of the Board of Director for Habitat Hamilton (2019-2020).  Her land use planning knowledge and background allows her to provide advice and assist Habitat with the land use planning approval processes as they build homes for partner families in the community.

In addition to the above, Brenda is actively involved with the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, the Hamilton-Halton Home Builders’ Association, and most recently, the Greater Hamilton Professional Planners Advisory Group where she organized and chaired an informal group of professional planners to review and discuss local planning issues and how they impact the development community.

With her passion for urban planning and her extensive knowledge and expertise, Brenda’s past experience emphasizes her commitment to excellence of service and her love for planning.
