The Avondale Cemetery, established in 1871, is the only active cemetery currently operated by the City of Stratford. As land in the cemetery is running out, the City retained Hilton Landmarks to develop a Master Plan for the remaining cemetery land and a new 18-hectare adjacent plot.

Hilton Landmarks provided guidance on management practices, marketing strategies and land use in both the existing and new cemetery lands. The proximity of the cemetery to the Avon River and the Road House Drain meant the cemetery lands were located on top of an existing floodplain, which presented additional challenges for future development.

In the end, Hilton Landmarks developed concepts showing potential cemetery layouts to meet demand in the City of Stratford for the next 25 years or more.
