Working alongside the Zehr Group, Paul Consulting, the Belmont Village BIA, and the City of Kitchener, GSP Group created a concept plan and construction details for the closure of a mid-block slip lane to allow for the expansion of restaurant patios along Belmont Avenue, creating a common public area with landscaping and seating.

The plans proposed temporary streetscape enhancements for the enclosure of the expanded patio area which included low fencing, shade structures, and seating opportunities for pedestrians. Play elements such as hopscotch and teeter-totters were incorporated to encourage interaction among pedestrians with the placement of elements to encourage social distancing. GSP staff also volunteered to fabricate planter boxes to act as traffic barriers at either end of the slip lane, which together with the signage and plantings provided colour and interest to this seasonal pedestrian community space.
