As part of a multi-disciplinary team, GSP Group prepared the outdoor recreational components of a Recreation, Parks and Trails Master Plan for the Town of Bracebridge. This master plan recognizes the Town’s unique recreational attributes, seasonal demands and wilderness setting, and the wide array of local community and tourism integrated recreational interests.

An extensive trails inventory was mapped using a GPS to accurately locate more than 40 kilometres of off-street trail routes. This laid the groundwork for developing the future trails plan integrated with the Town’s Active Transportation Plan.

Core value statements and principals of environmental sustainability, economic prosperity and community health and wellness underpin the master plan’s strategic directions and policies, and provide the overall framework for the recommended projects and initiatives.

Key deliverables include parks and trails classification systems, design and development guidelines and procedures, service-level standards, park- and trail-specific recommendations, water access strategy, and mapping outdoor recreational assets. The study gives direction to strengthen the role of destination parks in balancing needs with the level of facility development required for high volume events, festivals and regional attractions.
