GSP Group, with F.J. Galloway Associates, prepared the Strathroy-Caradoc Parks and Recreation Master Plan for this growing urban and rural community west of London. This is the municipality's first master plan of this kind. The master plan is based on research and community consultation. Over 50 stakeholder participants contributed through a series of interviews and focus groups. Over 400 residents also participated through online surveys and community workshops.
With a large inventory of existing municipal recreation facilities and parks, a priority identified by the community and a focus of the master plan involved strategies and directions to maintain, enhance and maximize the use of existing facilities, including a service delivery model and policy framework as well as recommendations for a new community coordinator.
Direction is also provided for continuing to acquire and develop new parkland to meet the needs of the growing population in Strathroy and Mount Brydges, for managing municipally-owned natural areas and open spaces, and for expanding the trail system beyond the existing primary riverside trail along the Sydenham River. Municipal Council approved the Master Plan as a working document in July of 2015.
