The cemetery property was first established in 1995. With a 20 hectares of land available, Hilton Landmarks was contracted to develop a master plan for the cemetery, starting with the nine hectares in Phase 1.
Hilton Landmarks developed a phased master plan identifying a variety of interment and memorialization options for the entire property. As the master plan was implemented, Hilton Landmarks also designed and administered the installation of cremation gardens, entry features and a naturalized wetland.
Williamsburg Cemetery is also home to Canada’s first green burial area, Sanctuary Woods designed by Hilton Landmarks and established in 2002. In addition to its purpose as a cemetery, Williamsburg has become a destination for weddings, community trails and wetland preservation.
